Accused and guilty- The biopics

Trends never stop to surprise me. Whether it is a trend of wearing a headband or a choker, to choose a career path- doctor or engineer or something else (which will perhaps upset the parents), or the trend of movies to film and release biopics.
You name it and it is already released in the world. Biopics on sportspersons, politicians, freedom fighters, social workers, gangsters, rapists, terrorists and the most controversial of all- the actors. Good, bad , ugly, There are all of them out there. I am not against the biopics of the people who are on the other side of the law. But I also, do not favor them. The reason being, there are the fans, who support their idols, through thick and thin. Their support is so strong, that it does not affect them, if their star kills someone, steals something or well, dies. To make the situations more immortal, are the statues, which eventually makes the star, a star for eternity. Those are the people, whose individual opinions do not affect the society as a whole.
But then, there are the people, the storytellers, who impact the society in a great way. Whatever is the media, films, documentaries or books, They can twist and turn the image or character of a person on a whole new level. So, as they say, with great powers, come great responsibilities. So, their responsibility is to portray a character in a very unbiased way. They cannot be biased in a pure way, even if they feel that person to be good or bad. If they do feel that way, then the book cannot be a biography or a movie cannot be a biopic. It is a pure art of fiction, in which the opinions of a person are irrespective of the reality.
Hence, please think about it. Before you portray a real life murderer or an assasin or a thief, as a human who acted fully on their emotions as you accuse their emotions (which are not dark magic effects) and declare him as non-guilty, you are affecting the society and their views as a whole.

  1. This post is too good. I am also of the same view. I have not found a single movie which shows true history. Bollywood always tries to secularize some incident in every movie. But a movie Veer Savarkar by Randeep Hooda is an exception. It is artistically best biopic movie without and sugar coating or balancing. The movie showed all the incidence which i tried to cover in my book – “The Unveiling India”

    Thanks & Regards,
